EW Reunites Ten Casts: Weaver on Aliens, Allen on Home ...

EW gathered ten classic film and TV casts for the ?Ultimate Pop Culture Get-Together.? From The Princess Bride to Aliens to Home Improvement, here is just a taste of the goodies from the reunions. The EW issue is on newsstands today.
?
THE PRINCESS BRIDE
Cary Elwes on the film?s legacy:

?The movie has an incredible life from generation to generation. I guess it?s because it?s so sweet and has a really good heart. People have told me they?ve named their kids Westley and Buttercup, that they were married dressed as Westley and Buttercup. I met a girl just a few weeks ago who has ?As You Wish? tattooed on her neck.?

Mandy Patinkin on the ?magic?:

?Not a day goes by where somebody doesn?t come up and ask, ?Can you say the line?? And I say it with the greatest joy in the world. I?ll often whisper it into a little kid?s ear so he?s not looking at my face, so he just hears my voice, because I don?t want to mess up the magic.?

HOME IMPROVEMENT (clips below)

Of the three actors who played his sons (Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Taran Noah Smith, Zachery Ty Bryan) on the show, Tim Allen says: ?I have all girls, so they are like my sons..It?s kind of creepy how much I like them.? Until this reunion, Allen and Patricia Richardson hadn?t seen Thomas since 1999. ?They don?t look that different to me,? says Richardson. ?These three are my other kids in some strange way and always will be.?

Of his long absence from TV, Thomas says: ?I just wanted to experience other things, see what direction life was going to take me.? But now: ?I still have a passion for TV, so I could see myself working in it,? maybe even as a director.?

ALIENS

James Cameron on the artform of pre-CG visual effects, and how the film stays valid:

?It certainly was the last bastion of the pre-CG visual effects world of solving everything. There was something about that art form, effects work with cameras and prosthetics and animatronics?. I look back at it with respect now?The fun thing about doing historical or futuristic films is that they take place outside of pop culture, so it stands the chance of remaining a film for future generations [to appreciate]. Aliens takes place in an alternative future history that?s as valid now as it was in 1986.?

Sigourney Weaver on current action hero costumes (she wore an asexual flight suit):

?I feel sad for other women who are playing action heroes in these [skimpy] costumes. They need to wear what?s practical. Yes, Ripley?s a woman, and women are always underestimated as hysterical people with no courage. But Ripley has tremendous strength and determination.?
