Celebrate the power of imaging with Sony at Photokina

Sony showcases its commitment to inspire and support photographers through the power of imaging in Hall 5.2 at Photokina this week.

The extraordinary quality and creative flexibility of full-frame image sensor technology features across more digital imaging products from Sony than ever before. Alongside the new ?99 Translucent Mirror camera, 35mm full-frame sensors make their debut in the extraordinary Cyber-shot? RX1 compact camera and the Handycam? NEX-VG900 E-mount interchangeable lens camcorders.

They?re joined on the Sony booth by the full range of digital cameras, camcorders, accessories and photo peripherals, together with professional camera products for serious videographers and film-makers.

SLT-A99 full-frame Translucent Mirror Camera

The eagerly-awaited ?99 is the first Translucent Mirror camera from Sony that features a full-frame 35mm Exmor CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels. Ruggedly built to meet the demands of serious enthusiasts, it?s also one of the world?s lightest full-frame interchangeable-lens digital cameras. In a world first from Sony, the ?99 features a brand new Dual AF System that maintains ultra-fast, accurate tracking focus even if the subject leaves the 19-point AF frame.

Crafted to meet the demands of high-end video production, the ?99 inherits its ?cinematic DNA? from professional movie cameras and high-end camcorders by Sony. Full-frame Full HD movie shooting (50p/25p switchable to 60p/24p) is further enhanced with non-stop Continuous AF, pro-style audio features and uninterrupted ?dual media card? recording.

Complementing the debut of the ?99, the range of A-mount interchangeable lenses expands further with the new 300mm F2.8 G SSM II (SAL300F28G2) lens. This bright super-telephoto offers uprated optics and improved handling compared with its predecessor, together with a dust- and moisture-resistant design that?s ideal for demanding in-the-field assignments.

Cyber-shot? RX1 full-frame compact digital camera

Full-frame also features in Sony?s Cyber-shot? compact camera line-up for the first time. The palm-sized Cyber-shot? RX1 packs a 24.3 effective megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor into a compact camera that?s drastically smaller and lighter than any other full-frame DSLR. Equipped with a Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm F2 lens, the Cyber-shot? RX1 makes an ideal go-anywhere partner for portraits, travel and street photography.

Handycam? NEX-VG900E full-frame interchangeable lens camcorder

Video makers can embrace the expressive power of full-frame imaging with the new Handycam? NEX-VG900E Full HD camcorder. Offering supreme imaging quality and generous creative options, it?s the first Handycam? with a 35mm sensor to exploit the artistic potential of interchangeable E-mount lenses by Sony and Carl Zeiss. With a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels, the Sony-developed Exmor CMOS sensor inside the NEX-VG900e is around 40 times larger than the equivalent in ordinary consumer camcorders.

NEX-6 interchangeable lens system camera

Sony?s acclaimed NEX compact system camera range continues to expand with the enthusiast-focused NEX-6. Packing the imaging quality, responses and operability of a DSLR into a pocket-sized mirrorless hybrid camera, the NEX-6 contains a 16.1 effective megapixels APS-C sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor. It?s teamed with the powerful BIONZ image processor that ensures flawless, low-noise images ? even when you?re shooting dimly-lit interiors at extended sensitivity settings up to ISO 25600. The NEX-6 also shares many imaging innovations with the recently-announced NEX-5R ? from a responsive Fast Hybrid AF system to Wi-Fi connectivity and downloadable Camera Apps.

HDR-AS15 Action Cam

Weighing just 90g, the new HDR-AS15 Action Cam is an ultra-compact, wearable Full HD camcorder that?s an ideal partner for hiking, biking, snorkelling or sky-diving. The high-quality Carl Zeiss? Tessar? lens gives an ultra-wide 170? angle of view for a thrilling sense of your surroundings ? from ski slopes to mountain trails. The camera?s Exmor R? CMOS sensor assures crisp, low-noise footage in almost any light, while SteadyShot image stabilisation helps keep footage clear and judder-free. Wi-Fi allows easy video transfers to a tablet or smartphone using the free PlayMemories Mobile app.

Professional NXCAM camcorders

Leveraging on Sony?s excellence in professional digital cinema camera development, the expanded range of NXCAM camcorders for professional content creators includes the brand-new NEX-EA50EH that targets corporate & event production and budget-conscious movie makers. This versatile yet accessibly-priced camcorder features a 16.1 effective megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that assures fantastic image quality with the full range of interchangeable E-mount lenses. Similar in size to the digital cinematography standard Super 35mm sensor, the NEX-EA50EH?s APS-C sensor brings control over depth of field to a broader range of professional users. A revised all-in-one body design allows quick, easy transition between handheld or shoulder-mounted operation to suit a wide range of shooting opportunities. The NEX-EA50EH comes supplied with the image-stabilised E PZ 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Power Zoom lens that features a zoom rocker on the barrel for smooth zoom control.

Ideal for commercials, pop promos, sports and documentaries, the NEX-FS700EK and the NEX-FS100EK head the NXCAM line-up. Both come with a 11x zoom E-mount lens. The NEX-FS700EK camcorder features a new 4K Exmor Super 35mm CMOS sensor that captures beautiful Full HD video with high sensitivity, low noise and minimal aliasing. A planned firmware upgrade will allow the NEX-FS700EK to output a 4K RAW bit stream over 3G HD-SDI. The NEX-FS700EK and the NEX-FS100EK offer full-HD slow motion in 240 fps and 60fps respectively. The award-wining highly modular design broadens the camcorder?s appeal for a wide range of professional applications.
